Other than for a couple of additions and several facelifts, such as the street corner pictured to the left, the Village is mostly stock inherited from our host country through the original land purchase (see
Funds › Assets). It's a modest, small place of around 600 houses, many of which are in need of a complete overhaul. It is, however, the more popular neighborhood, especially among single, new residents. As you would know, there are a number of dual-residents (original villagers) who chose to remain here, and who would be typically happy to exchange a few words with you.
The houses near the center are mostly stuck together, with common sidewalls, and sometimes comprising 2 or 3 dwellings. Otherwise, you get a yard around that increases from about 2,500 sf to 1/3 ac, the farther out you go. Either way, all homes here are "type A" (see
Living in Raye › Dwelling), and range from 1,000 sf to 1,300 sf. Our team of volunteers does what it can to bring units to a habitable condition, but availabillity is on a best-effort basis. Again, be armed with more than just a paintbrush on arrival.
We have a planned development to turn the few larger buildings in the middle into public venues, including a media-sampling den/cafe and an art gallery, and to create a square for a street market, though all that might take time. If interested to participate, please visit
Development.
